One of my favorite parts of the holiday season is decorating our Christmas tree and having our home smell like pine. We’re lucky to have some great u-cut farms near us, but the idea of cutting down a tree is usually much better than the reality. Rain, snow, mud, and crossing your fingers your tree doesn’t dry up too much before the holiday. Does hot cider really make the trip worth while? So what’s the alternative? A plastic tree? No way. How about a potted Christmas tree that is delivered to your home, picked up after the holidays, and is then planted in a water shed? Sign me up! Portland’s Living Christmas Tree Rental and Vancouver’s Evergrow Christmas Trees will do this for you. You can choose the type of tree and the height. They’re fresher, less likely to dry out and start on fire, and bottom heavy so they don’t tip over as easily. They may be a few $ more than the local u-cut, but I think it is well worth it for delivery, pick up, and to know your tree has a greater future than a wood chipper.

Thursday, December 3rd from 5-9 pm.

Gastown is the perfect anti-mall destination with so many unique shops all within a few blocks of each other. They’ve come together to hold the Gastown ShopHop, a one night only shopping event. Go from shop to shop to enjoy holiday drinks and holiday deals! Check out the flyer here for all participating boutiques.

A few of my favorite boutiques:

-The Block never fails to amaze with its impeccable selection of local and international designers. Vancouver notables Erin Templeton, Mono by Heather Martin, and Sunja Link are all carried here, along with many others.

-Nouvelle Nouvelle, is a delightful boutique that carries one of my personal favourite lines Rabbit on the Run. I also love the styling of A Farmer’s Daughter fringe necklaces. Definitely come by Nouvelle Nouvelle and check out their handpicked selection of original clothing, paper products and jewellery.

-Dutil is the place to shop for denim in Vancouver. If you’re like me, you hate trying on jeans. So I always head to Dutil where their selection is second to none. The great staff will help you find the perfect jeans for your body. Lately I’ve been buying North Vancouver based brand Small Town, the fit is spectacular and they’re made in America.

1). A Farmers Daughter 2). Erin Templeton

It seems like an easy, festive way of decorating for Christmas, and it allows you to change your style easily from year to year. I love the flexibility of these decals, especially since they come in a wide variety of colors, sizes, and themes. What do you think? Would you decorate with these?
