Is it alright that I miss the rain? Kind of strange for me as the number of times I’ve considered moving to California, just for the weather, can’t be counted on two hands.

You get the sense browsing through i am dorkas’s shop that there is a history behind each unique item that is for sale. I personally fell in love with the apron and napkins pictured above, and I couldn’t resist including the vintage picture of Mari’s mom who made the apron. i am dorkas is a family affair with both Mari and her mom making kitchen linens, Mari and her boyfriend collaborating to create jewelry, and Mari’s talented boyfriend taking photos of it all. One part shop – one part scrapbook and family history, i am dorkas features fabrics found in Finland and jewelry made from clock pieces – I think you’ll want to browse around a bit to learn more about fun loving Mari and her family. Summer DIY’s & Handmade Decorations
I’m guessing you’re hosting at least one event at your place this summer, either a barbecue or baby shower or something along those lines! Even if you decide not to go all out with the decorations, there are lots of sweet DIY’s and wonderful handmade items to be found. Adding a simple bunting or lovely cakestand is enough to give any gathering a special feeling without feeling pressured to decorate to the 9’s.

A new find – Pyxus! Not only does Pyxus stock great dresses and tops – they’ve got an eye to sustainability too. Minx is indie fashion at it’s best! I’ve got my eye on several items from this shop that I’d like to make my own – each handmade piece is delicately detailed and it’s clear that Seattle seamstress Anna Marie knows a thing or two about fashion and the art of display. Today’s Handmade Finds are from Etsy shop Cutie Pie Company. This delightful shop features fun items like the above envelopes made out of vintage maps. Included in their stationery packages are vintage stamps that can be used on your letters. I know there has been a lot of talk over the years about how the art of letter writing has been lost – replaced by emails and facebook… I agree that it’s not only nice to send a letter the old fashioned way – I also think it’s nice how these types of things take you away from the computer. Refreshing, really! It’s sunny here so I think I’ll be off to run some errands and to do just that.

The Love Story Necklace, just like any great love story is complicated. It has twists and turns, highs and lows, and has been hammered and polished.

The idea for the Love Story Necklace came to me when I realized that my favorite love stories are often complex and drawn out. I spent a weekend doing research. I watched all of my favorite romantic movies, the ones that have shaped my ideals of love, and I became inspired to create unique pieces of art that honored the curving, unique path that relationships can take us on.
The pieces that resulted were intricate, stunning and highly original, featuring precious metal, colourful enamel, and freshwater pearls. Each Love Story Necklace, just like the story it was inspired by is truly one of a kind.
If you think that a Love Story Necklace is perfect for you, and you want to wear one on your wedding day, here’s your chance – all you have to do is tell me your love story in a maximum of 800 words.
My creative team and I will read the submissions and choose the one we feel most inspired by, and I will create a Love Story necklace based on it. The winning love story will receive a custom-made Love Story Necklace valued at $450, and the story will be posted on my blog. Good luck!
