Johnny Vintage

If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile you’ll know my taste is all over the place, especially when it comes to home decor! As I collect inspiration here – with hopes of some day having a home that we know we’ll be settling in long term – I’m finding my tastes are becoming even more varied. One thing I do know – I like white, and great color combinations, often with some bright colors thrown in. I’m even starting to wonder – is it weird to have each room of your home in a totally different style? I would love a kitchen inspired by Johnny Vintage, or even by the paintings of Janet Hill – and then a living room that is much more understated and modern. One thing I know is that I don’t love the process of narrowing it down, and I’m glad that for now I can keep daydreaming!

Restless General Store

September 9, 2010

restless general store

I usually like to find shops from a bit closer to home to post about – but there were just too many great vintage finds in this shop to pass up. Norwich based Olivia Jeffries owns this shop, as well as another shop you can peek at here, featuring her fine art. I think the vintage paper pack was my favorite find in the shop. I’ve been going through old photos a bit lately, trying to get them organized. Some of my favorites are those of my grandparents, taken when my mom and her sisters were just little girls. They’re weathered now like these ones, but it’s fun to wonder what their lives were like and to see bits of their personalities shine through the photos.

Well another week is almost over, and the weekend is just around the corner! I’m pretty excited about this one, and I’m not 100% sure how we’ll fit in all of our plans- but I’m sure we’ll have lots of fun. A dear friend is in town from Montreal so I am excited to see her, we have the fireworks one night, and a picnic to go to on Sunday too! Whatever you have planned I hope it’s fun, involves at least a bit of time away from your computer or work, and that the weather co-operates!

I love the top picture here from Yvette Inufio and I can’t help but think what a happy gal I’d be if I had a vintage picnic set like this one.

Vintage Home Decor Inspiration

July 15, 2010

vintage home decor

Lots of vintage home decor to be found on Etsy these days – here are some finds from a couple shops I spotted recently and am inspired by… I’m one of those people that loves so many different styles and picking just one is very tough for me to do. We currently live in a condo in downtown Vancouver – but in time we know we’ll move elsewhere so I’m hesitant to do too much decorating at this point. In the meantime I’ll continue to collect inspiration here and see if I can narrow things down even just a little bit!

Get Dressed ~ Vintage Edition

plaid vintage dress

There is no end to the vintage goodness that can be found on Etsy – my most recent discovery: Lollycrisp Vintage. In one week, summer will be officially here – so it seems like the perfect time to pick up a pretty new dress or purse for all the long summer days ahead! I’m especially fond of the plaid vintage dress pictured on the left above.

June 11, 2010

I’ve got the good news you’ve been waiting for all week…. It’s Friday! Any fun plans? I’ve got a summer cold so I’ll probably spend some time recuperating.

Refinery29 posted their favorite Etsy shops the other day, which sent me off looking through some new shops and also returning to some old favorites.

I’ve put together: A Mixed Bag of Wonderful – my favorite picks I found while browsing the shops…

Ball Mason Jars as Home Decor

Home Decor – Ball Mason Jars

These humble jars – invented in 1858 and once used only for canning – are now popping up everywhere. I love the various ways they’re being used: as casts for ceramics – as in the case of Alyssa Ettinger’s lantern shown above, as vases, and Post Road Vintage has taken things to the next level by using them in their upcycled coat hook.

I found a lot of these items thanks to teegee’s treasury on Etsy.

Clockwise, left to right: 1). Post Road Vintage 2). South Rose Window 3). Midwest Finds 4). Alyssa Ettinger
