It’s a Dog’s Life…

dog art

I’m dog-sitting for a friend today – so naturally I thought I’d take a peek around Etsy to see just what’s available for the dog lovers amongst us! Turns out there are lots of cute things to be had, from custom made silhouettes of your dog beautifully screen printed on pillows from Ma Chere Finery, fun posters from SF Girl by Bay, and great collars at Nola and Spencer. Growing up we always had a dog – many of them were cute, all of them were big – and one in particular specialized in being a terror (oh the stories I could tell). We’re thinking we’ll wait to get a dog until we have kids – so that won’t be for a few years yet. Do you have a dog – any fun stories to share?

Be as lazy as you want….

September 6, 2010

lazyholic

Because it’s Labor Day and heck you deserve it! We’re back from a fun road trip with various stops along the I-5 and beyond… I’m working today but feeling ready for it. Came upon this very fun site via a friend on Facebook last night (thanks Myra!) – how clever is this lazyholic in recovery, Erin Hanson?

She’s giving away some fun free printables – for the recovering lazyholic who wants to take the first step to productivity by making some lists.

I enjoyed peeking through the rest of her site – especially her series breaking down her wants and needs. I notice she’s also got a great etsy shop selling some of her prints and posters too.

I was lucky enough to “meet” the very talented and kind Kellie, of 74 Lime Lane this summer. Not only does Kellie have a really great blog, she’s also got an Etsy Shop stocked with her own original prints. Kellie calls Australia home, and somehow finds the time to not only work as a graphic designer, journalist and photographer, but she’s also a wife and mom to two boys! There are so many great photos in her shop to choose from – I’ve got my eye on both the teacups and the pictures of vintage cameras.

Wapa Design Studio

wapa design studio

Here on Handmade Evolution I usually feature artists from North America – but today I’d like to focus on an international artist whose work has caught my eye, big time! There are so many pieces from Wapa’s store that I’d like to call my own. Wapa is owned and operated by Ada Shapira who lives in Moshav AVihail, Israel. From the moment she sat at a potters wheel Ada knew that pottery was her calling. Since receiving a degree from The Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem she has been working with pottery – creating lighting objects, home decor items, jewelry and more.

I think it’s safe to call me a details person, so when I come across a sweet little shop like The House of Bouton – I get pretty excited. Cassie Bouton has formal training as a printmaker and earned her MFA at the University of Southern Maine. She creates lovely screenprinted tea towels and art to add a fun burst of color to any kitchen.

I came upon this sweet treasury on Etsy a few days ago and knew I wanted to share it. Have you seen the movie Up? I loved it – and this treasury makes me think I should watch it again.

Today I’ve got my eyes on these sweet little pouches and clutches from Seaoats. Shop owner Malina does her best to use upcycled and recycled materials whenever possible and I’ve got to say her efforts result in some really gorgeous bags! Click here to visit her shop.

Handmade Finds – Pavel Sidorenko

August 11, 2010

Is it alright that I miss the rain? Kind of strange for me as the number of times I’ve considered moving to California, just for the weather, can’t be counted on two hands.

Have you seen the work of Pavel Sidorenko already? I spotted in on the Cargoh blog recently and I’ve got to say it’s pretty neat. Pavel reworks old records and from them he creates some really fun clocks. To check out the whole collection click here.
