Tea Party 2 – The Sequel

September 30, 2010

tea party 2

I love it when I come across art online that makes me smile! How great is this piece from Sautter Pictures? And it’s got a fun title to boot: Tea Party 2! I think it would be really cute in a kids room. Click here to visit their shop for more whimsical animal themed imagery.

And that’s all I’ve got today folks – fall is officially here, and it’s keeping me busy this year!

Fall 2010 – Birds of North America

September 29, 2010

indie fashion toronto

Toronto indie fashion designer Hayley Gibson has launched her fall 2010 collection online, and as always I’m a fan of the clean looks, all accented with great details. This collection is dominated by dark colors: blacks, deep purples, and navy blue – quite fitting considering the tragic inspiration for her fall line.

Around here, a different mood seems to prevail today. We’re getting our last chance for some patio time – now through Sunday, and if things are quiet around here – that’s where you’ll find me.

Juliette Hogan – New Zealand Fashion Week

I thought it’d be fun to break away from our normal focus on North American indie fashion and take a peek at what’s going on in New Zealand! A friend let me know the other day that Fashion Week is in full swing in New Zealand and pointed me in the direction of one of her favorite designers from the shows, Juliette Hogan. It’s safe to say that I’m a fan now too – I love the collection she presented and would be pretty happy to own a few pieces from it. I like the ladylike feel and almost vintage look that many of the pieces have. I’ve included a few pictures from MSN NZ and you can check out all of the shows here as well as Juliette’s site too.

Reviewed: Handmade Lip Balm & Soap

September 23, 2010

handmade lip balm and soap

I thought I’d mix things up a bit today and review some fun handmade lip balm and soap I recently purchased from Dennis Anderson’s Etsy shop. I’ve always been a bit hesitant to buy certain things online, including handmade soap and lip balm. It’s different than purchasing art or jewelry as you really don’t know what you’re getting until it arrives. Dennis’s products were amazing though and actually exceeded my expectations. The lip balm has such a nice scent (I got Coconut and Oregon Strawberry), but isn’t too sweet or overpowering. It goes on well and leaves just a hint of shine – and what I thought was really nice is that it’s not chock full of chemicals like so many similar products are. I also got the carrot cake olive soap – it has a warm sweet smell and a nice silky texture.

I know the holidays are still a couple months away but I think there are lots of fun gift ideas in his shop – and you can always buy an extra one for yourself too!

Brinja’s Home

I stumbled upon Brinja’s blog recently – and was very inspired – as a shop owner and new mom, I’m sure her life is very busy. I love how she still finds the time to share lots of fun happenings on her blog and I had a great time trying to distinguish in each of her home photos, which photo was her home, or a miniature version of it. For almost a year now, Brinja has been working on this project – a miniature replica of her own apartment. At times her progress has been slowed by lots of lovely life events, from having a new baby, to celebrating her shop’s 5 year anniversary – yet she has returned time and time again to work on this much loved hobby.
