Pugly Pixel – Dollhouse Miniature Prints

July 16, 2010

dollhouse miniature prints

I spotted Pugly Pixel’s dollhouse miniature prints on the homepage of Etsy last night, and wanted to post about them right there and then. I held back until today – but am still excited to share them with you! I know for many of us dollhouses have a special place in our hearts – even though we’re adults now. For me – I know it’s because my grandma had her own dollhouse and also had my grandpa make one for all of her granddaughters – including me. It was around that time that I was introduced to the magic of miniatures. My grandma had a subscription to this great miniatures magazine and I would pore over every edition, marveling at all the detailed work. Now I see these prints and I’d really like to have them for our kitchen – they’re so fun!

Click here to visit the Pugly Pixel shop, and do visit her blog here too.

Hope your weekend is wonderful and it’s hot and sunny where you are – but maybe not too hot! We’ll be going on our weekly hike and I’m sure I’ll make some time for some fun projects too.

Vintage Home Decor Inspiration

July 15, 2010

vintage home decor

Lots of vintage home decor to be found on Etsy these days – here are some finds from a couple shops I spotted recently and am inspired by… I’m one of those people that loves so many different styles and picking just one is very tough for me to do. We currently live in a condo in downtown Vancouver – but in time we know we’ll move elsewhere so I’m hesitant to do too much decorating at this point. In the meantime I’ll continue to collect inspiration here and see if I can narrow things down even just a little bit!

Handmade Housewares – i am dorkas

July 14, 2010

handmade apron

You get the sense browsing through i am dorkas’s shop that there is a history behind each unique item that is for sale. I personally fell in love with the apron and napkins pictured above, and I couldn’t resist including the vintage picture of Mari’s mom who made the apron. i am dorkas is a family affair with both Mari and her mom making kitchen linens, Mari and her boyfriend collaborating to create jewelry, and Mari’s talented boyfriend taking photos of it all. One part shop – one part scrapbook and family history, i am dorkas features fabrics found in Finland and jewelry made from clock pieces – I think you’ll want to browse around a bit to learn more about fun loving Mari and her family. Home Decor Inspiration

I love how black and white has been used so wonderfully and unabashedly in this home! From the living room to the kitchen, dining room, bedroom and beyond. I thought it’d be fun to pair the home with some colorful Etsy finds.

Handmade Jewellery ~ Little Black Rabbit

July 12, 2010

handmade jewellery

Handmade Jewellery is one of the largest categories on Etsy – so I felt pretty lucky when I came across Little Black Rabbit’s beautiful jewellery and art, and knew that I had to post about it! This talented Seattle artisan works during the day as an art director before coming home to the small house she shares with her teenage son, small black rabbit and big black cat. Many of Little Black Rabbit’s pieces use vintage tin trays – I’m especially smitten with the scissors above, I’d love to have this piece for my office. All the pieces you see in the shop are one of a kind or limited edition – so if you see something you like, you’ll want to snap it up right away!

On a side note – hope you had a great weekend! I spent some fun time with friends, tidied up my office and worked on a new project. I gotta say I wish we could rewind right about now and start the weekend all over again. Ah well – another 5 days and it’ll be here again, right?

Hello Cargoh!

July 9, 2010

cargoh

I think you`ll want to say hello to Cargoh – the newest indie marketplace on the web. Cargoh differentiates itself from other marketplaces with it`s sleek design and with the promise of a music section! I love the prospect of being able to shop for indie music in a brand new way. Their marketplace has been steadily filling up over the weeks and I look forward to seeing who the next new Cargoh member will be – for sellers, they`re offering a free pro account until August 1st, meaning now`s a great time to sign up!

I`ve included a few of my favorite items from Cargoh shops above:
1). Organic Duvet from Nikki Designs
2). The Harlow Terrarium from LaLa Terrariums
3). Ipad Stand from Lilsticks Woodworking

Sweet Indie Fashion from She Bible

July 8, 2010

indie fashion

She Bible is indie fashion at it’s best as far as I’m concerned! And on a day like today, these dresses are perfect for staying cool. I love the sweet details incorporated into each dress and that they come in a variety of colors. Indie fashion designers Deirdre Nagayama and Stacy Rodgers have been best friends since their junior year of high school and started the line with a screen printer set up in their own kitchen. Fast forward a couple years and they’ve launched a brick and mortar shop in San Francisco and have a product line consisting of everything from clothing, to jewelry, fragrances and more. Better still? They continue to manufacture their line in San Francisco – both supporting their local economy and ensuring their clothing is ethically made.

Thanks to Jambo Chameleon for including my love posters in the sweet summer treasury you put together. Alongside my love posters I found a bunch of new favorite items – that remind me how much I’m enjoying that summer has finally arrived around here! I’ve got some plans made for time at the beach and am thinking some gelato will be in order – hope you’ve got some fun plans for the week ahead too.
