Kate Bingaman-Burt is a Portlander who has not only been documenting her own consumption for years – but has also chosen to make it the driving force behind her own artistic work. I’ve enjoyed reading her blog, so I was excited to learn about the release of her book, Obsessive Consumption, today on Indie Fixx.
I really enjoy Kate’s friendly drawing style – it always draws me in and wants me to look at more of her work. Her subject matter is definitely very thought provoking and takes a kind of openness that I’m not sure I possess!
Check out Kate’s monthly zines and illustrations at her etsy shop.

Like many of you, I saw Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution preview on Oprah last week, and it got me thinking about ways to encourage myself to cook more and to eat more healthy foods. I like his approach and how it focuses on finding balance.
For inspiration, I’ve been perusing the recipes Jamie has on his website.
I also like the idea of using these recipe cards from Etsy. I think having these around would make collecting new recipes more fun!

How about you? What do you do to encourage yourself to cook healthy meals?

Open Door Studio features a lovely array of vintage goods – even some to get you ready for gardening season. Not only is the owner of this shop a wonderful collector of all things vintage, she also clearly has a way with a camera too. Just looking at these images makes me wish I had a garden! Perhaps when we move we can see about getting some window boxes or something along those lines so I can have an outlet for my aspiring green thumb.

Toronto photographer Leslie Thomson’s beautiful photos are perfect to take us into the weekend. For Leslie, photography allows her to create the world she dreams of.
With photoshop at the ready she has a wonderful way of taking real life to the next level – I think the results are beautiful.
A couple of the above photos remind me very much of my time living in Toronto, but transforms my memories of those months and somehow makes them even more special. Fun times at the cottage with friends, family coming to visit from the States on the weekends. It was a great summer in an unfamiliar city.
On that note – I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I’m a big fan of these brightly colored flats – and was excited to learn that they’re eco-friendly. Alisha Budkie of Smartfish designs and creates cute flats out of sustainable and local materials, like salvaged cork and organic bamboo. Alisha is based in Cincinnati and has a background in industrial and footwear design.
