Spring 2010 Runway Inspiration – Part 6
As we’ve seen, plaid is still around this season and there’s a reason it’s still a big influence for designers. A hint of plaid can liven up any monotone outfit. With this look from Boy by Band of Outsiders we’ve moved from a 90’s grunge feel to a more preppy take. You can even go so far as to mix up the plaids, I’d add this chunky bracelet from elemental threads to top off the outfit and make it a little more girly.

Spring 2010 Runway Inspiration – Part 5
As you can see, both Luella and Marc by Marc Jacobs were inspired by bows this season. In this look, Marc pulls together one of the big trends, mixing different plaids together and he makes it look great. I think the Love Clutch by Ikestaedt is the perfect accessory to complement any plaid outfit. Do you love it as much as I do?

Vancouver-based designer Shelley Penner is a leader in sustainable, modern design. She started designing with legos as a kid and still seems to have that same passion for her work. Shelley runs the Penner + Associates design house, which has recently introduced the p+a furniture line that is available online and in their Vancouver store.
I first heard about Shelley in BC Home magazine, and I love how clearly items are labelled on her furniture website. You can easily tell where things are made and why they are eco-friendly, which makes shopping for sustainable products simple. I’d love to use the Domestic Aesthetic spice block and Dinah Coops tablemats and coasters for my next dinner party.

Wild! about wildlife
There is something inspiring about wildlife. Julie Cudahy captures the strength and complexity of wild animals, which she demonstrates in her original art and reproductions. You have a chance to see her new wildlife paintings and drawings up close at her latest exhibit, Wild!, and you can see more of her work online here. I’m personally drawn to her wildlife photography and could easily incorporate “The Growl” and “Lazy Day” into my home for a little bit of ying yang.

Architect Paula Barnes and Matthew Thompson’s refurbished Sussex home was decorated using salvaged, reclaimed, heirloom and auction items. The resulting look is rustic and laid back and was featured in the November 2009 issue of Living etc. It might be the perfect look for a countryside home and I love the historical influences and eco friendliness of the decor! Above are photos of their home, to see more of Paula’s projects from her architectural salvage and design company, Eliza Barnes, click here.

Spring 2010 Runway Inspiration – Part 4
Here’s another look from Anna Sui that embodies the pretty/girly feel of Spring 2010. Detailed prints mix and match with each other to give an overall bohemian vibe. Finish it off with an eggplant bow clutch from Vancouver’s own Davie and Chiyo.

I fell in love with this image when I saw it in this month’s Martha Stewart magazine – and had to share! No matter your feelings about dogs and clothes, you’ve got to admit it’s pretty adorable. We want to say Happy Holidays to all of you and hope you have an enjoyable break. We’ll be off the rest of the week enjoying time with family and friends, check back Monday as we’ll be continuing our series on Spring 2010 Runway Trends.

Spring 2010 Runway Inspiration – Part 3
Bows are another big trend for next season, as seen in this look from Luella. You don’t need to be as over the top as the model here, we’re not necessarily recommending a huge bow on top of your head- unless you’re Minnie Mouse it’s a hard look to pull off. The perfect way to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe is with this black rhinestone bow necklace from Love Las Muertas. The black metal chain gives it a modern feel so it’s not too ‘girly’. Just right by my books.
